Yeah I mostly learned English watching Cartoon Network, when it wasn’t with subtitles or dubbed. They basically started airing in the Netherlands and an entire generation learned English by watching cartoons after school.
This is now repeating with YouTube and teens watching a lot of English youtubers.
I miss those days, Dexter’s laboratory, Dragonball Z, two stupid dogs…
With a system like .beat (or internet time as it was also called), there are no timezones and there is no daylight savings time.
If we would use a system like that, I’m pretty sure stores in Barcelona would open at a different time than stores in Amsterdam, because the sunrise at different moments. Now we have the same timezone, because it works wel for trade, not because its the best local time.
Using the exact same time globally could fix that. We use the same time for meetings with people abroad but choose the time that fits when the sun rises
I remember that at some point in the 90s or 2000s you could buy watches with beats time. A day was divided in 1000 beats and there where no timezones. So 300 beats could be breakfast for me and bedtime for you.
I think I would actually really like a global system like that.

Did that but also removed my account, I was not an active subscriber, but after logging in they push you towards subscribing. AFAIK you can only delelte your account via live chat, be sure to mention Art. 17 GDPR Right to erasure (‘right to be forgotten’).

I never had a blackberry, but my HTC Desire Z was peak typing. You slide the keyboard out and have a full keyboard. I typed very fast on that thing, every phone I got after that sucked at typing.

Let me give you one, kids try to explore topics out of curiosity. They are probably not going to look up someone torturing animals, because they don’t want to see that. Kids usually look up and explore things they are ready for. Also “kids” is a pretty diverse group, a 5 year old and a 15 year old kid are very different.
For real young kids parents should monitor online behavior anyway. For teens, how is life this different than looking at a playboy or a porn tape. Teens have been doing that forever, the people creating these laws probably did that when they where kids.
It’s probably a lot better to let kids (teens) explore nudity and sex in a safe environment, instead of letting them go unsupervised in places that ignore the law.
It’s basically the same argument with drugs, offering legal options vs. going to a dealer and possibly getting much more dangerous drugs mixed in.
