A VGA card. In an IBM PS/2.
The first 3D accelerator card I ever had was a Voodoo 2 of some variety.
Did work out reasonably well in “desktop mode.” There’s a cubby in my desk I could put it, and power, video and a USB hub for ethernet and peripherals was on the side that stuck into the desk, and the SD card slot and a couple more ports stuck out of the desk for use. But oh man a lot of the details on this laptop were designed like a government website.
Okay, Dell shaming time.
On my Inspiron, there are three USB ports. Two on the right side along with the SD card slot, and one on the left side along with the charger port and the HDMI port.
One of these is a USB2.0, the others are USB 3.0. All type As, this laptop predates USB-C by about 2 weeks. The one that is 2.0 is one of the two on the right side. Dell put no markings on the chassis to distinguish them, and colored all the tongues black, no blue tongues. So if you forgot which is which you had to look down into the port for the one that only has four conductors back there.
I swear, Congress designed this fucking laptop.
Typically they’ll do a major revamp or a clean sheet design of a model, so the 2005 Hoyota Civrolla is a completely new car. The 2006 Civrolla will be available in a few different paint colors and 2 different wheel options. The 2007 model has a different grille so it looks even more like it’s smiling while wearing a retainer. The 2008 model has a different washer bottle assembly and the battery tray is now molded plastic instead of stamped steel. The 2008 model is available with a 2.7 liter engine in addition to the 3.6. 2009 they eliminate the base model trim so now they all have power mirrors and cruise control. The 2010 models with CD players can now play mp3s off the CD. 2011 they only sell the 6-speed manual with the 2.7 liter engine, the V6 is only available with an automatic. 2012 they do a major style update, same chassis and running gear, different bodywork and the interior shares more components with the Elamry.
Other than a flip phone in 2005 that died a death I now have the skills to fix, I have never bought a new phone after only one year. I upgraded from an S4 to an S10. The time to flat out reject the yearly release cycle is over a decade old at this point.
Why say “enshittificate” when “enshittify” will do?
enshittificate isn’t a word.
I remember the time he Excel’d himself.
I seem to remember he wrote something in Python that took hours to run, and his community got it down to milliseconds in C.
Would “Trick NOT Treat” include only the area of Trick that does not overlap Treat?
knowing Matt Parker it only matches prime numbers or multiples of e or something.
looks at <ansewer>
Yeah see?
Two of those are wacky japes, one of them is attempted something in the somethingth degree. Wasn’t long ago someone did actually die in a Disney park due to nut allergies.
I don’t avoid low view count videos because…say I get a notification that RedLetterMedia has just published a new Best of the Worst. It’s been live for 4 minutes. Of course it’s going to have a low view count.
I’m looking for a repair video on the specific make and model of Dell laptop I have. I’ve seen exactly two of them in existence, not a popular model. It’s going to have a low view count.
I think it is useful information to have, it shouldn’t be entirely hidden like the downvotes are, but I don’t think it’s necessary on the home page.
Date uploaded though…that needs to be there.
At the moment, my main machine is on KDE because it has very good Wayland support and isn’t Gnome. I prefer Cinnamon
Yeah it’s not open source unless the title is a garbage fire.
That’s the sound a tennis ball makes.
“That you can self-host” Does a budgeting tool need to be a service that’s constantly running and not an application? I struggle to see how having it running as a service on some box somewhere is going to help. “It’s so you can access it on your phone elsewhere.” Oh great. It’ll have a garbagepuke mobile UI.
Here’s my rule: Anything in my Chevy S10 that you control by turning a knob, moving a lever, or momentarily push a button? That needs to be a physical control in a car. Anything where you push and hold a button, or mash a button multiple times (like setting the clock or turning off the DRLs respectively) can be moved to a settings menu in a touch screen. These things shouldn’t be done while moving.
And no, touch sensitive single-function panels like the climate controls in my father’s Avalon are not good enough, it needs to be a mechanical control that you can feel for without activating.
