Cowbee is responsible for exterminating, at minimum, ten million White cishet capitalist men, and even that estimate might be too low.

Cowbee is a user who makes a lot of comments in discussion and debate threads about socialism and communism. IMO he’s extremely patient and gives very detailed explanations/arguments. Some people disagree with him (which is OK, of course), but some of those people are IMO rude and/or dishonest about it. This form is a joke about that.

Assuming maybe wrongfully that they are a man, (i’m uncomfortable with the use of they/them to designate a singular person, english isn’t my first language), yeah, I’m seriously impressed by his patience and kindness.

I felt so ashamed to give small answers to him that one time he corrected me with a very understandable and precise paragraph, that I actually became motivated to read a bit of theory.

    That’s what i call a good influencer.

Using “they” for a singular person has been used since at least the 14th century, so there’s no need to feel uncomfortable with it. I highly recommend reading the Wikipedia page on Singular they, which touches on its history.

A similar example is “you.” “You” used to be only a plural, with “thou” being the singular, but over time it fell out of fashion and now “you” can be used as singular or plural, like how “they” can be singular or plural.

Singular “they” was criticised by some people hundreds of years after it started being used. But language cannot be prescribed; it is determined by how people use it.

Oh, thank you for the info, but when i said that I am uncomfortable with that pronoun, i said it in the sense “I’m not used to this pronoun and don’t know how to use it properly”.

If I understood well, it can be used like he-his, she-her, they-theirs? I gotta use gender neutral pronouns more often. Sounds better than “it-its”

Oh that makes sense, sorry I misunderstood!

Yep, they/them/theirs is used in the same place as he/him/his or she/her/hers. It/it/its should not be used for people unless someone explicitly says those are their preferred pronouns. “It” is typically used for objects and non-human animals, so it could be seen as rude to refer to a human as “it.” If unsure, use they/them.

Considering “tankie” in practice is just a pejorative for those that “support existing socialist projects,” then I suppose it’s accurate, though I would suggest not marking down “tankies” and instead trying to listen more to what we have to say.

I was of the opinion tankie was just a term given to Russian or Chinese fans/apologists. People that think these governments can do no wrong which is just dumb and naive. And thinking they can do no right is just as naive. As oppressive as the Chinese government can be, they have been at least making some interesting choices in regards to science and technology recently. But people are getting labeled as tankie because of support for socialist ideas? Like government healthcare and social safety nets?

The thing is that nobody actually thinks that, liberals just tell you we think that so you don’t engage with out actual positions, because people who engage with our actual positions tend to come around to agreeing with them. It’s a classic anticommunist canard.

Nobody genuinely thinks the USSR or PRC can/could do no wrong, but the strawman image of someone who believes that is used as a club against those that uphold them, Cuba, Vietnam, Laos, DPRK, etc. as validly socialist countries working towards a better future. Healthcare and safety nets are social programs, not socialism, but that’s a different conversation.

The point is that those that uphold existing socialism are labeled “tankies,” and I uphold existing socialism, warts and all, as genuinely progressive movements.

Wow that description as “extremely patient and gives very detailed explanations/arguments” is kinda on the nose isn’t it. Good on you for having the time and patience to help educate people.

In my opinion any country legitimately trying to better their people is a good thing. At least way better than trying to enrich the same 10 billionaires over and over again.

I’d consider myself more of a fan of social democracies. Ultimately the problem seems to be that no one is truly altruistic or even future thinking. As a species we are greedy, short sighted, with tiny short attention spans.

Thanks for the kind words! One thing I want to say, though, is that it’s less that humans are greedy, and more that we are shaped by the way we live, produce, and distribute. Capitalism expresses and reinforces greed, we aren’t intrinsically greedy. Social democracy, ie capitalism with large safety nets, is unfortunately both unsustainable and also relies on imperialism to subsidize the safety nets, which is why socialism itself is necessary.

It’s a pretty old tag, I tend to keep them around less as a label and more as a “I’ve had meaningful interactions with this person” sticker

Y’all have definitely rubbed off on me quite a bit since then =)
