Feels like a class action waiting to happen… However, it’d likely only result in a slap-on-the-wrist fines and no action taken.

Though few have noticed, Mexico has reduced its daily homicide count by 41% over the past 18 months, owing to President Claudia Sheinbaum’s pioneering new strategy for confronting organized crime. Such a sharp reduction is an historic achievement for Mexico – and puts Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele’s thuggish methods to shame.
MEXICO CITY—El Salvador’s homicide rate, previously among the world’s highest, has dropped dramatically under President Nayib Bukele’s authoritarian rule. Bukele argues that there is no alternative to his model of crime reduction, which includes a persistent state of emergency, mass incarcerations, and widespread human-rights violations. Institutional reforms move too slowly to mitigate the daily harm caused by gangs. No one, he claims, has ever come up with a security model as successful as his.

I think it’s high time I join you on that

Privacy badger is from EFF so I’ll trust them to block cookies and hidden trackers. I’m sure it’s accomplishing the same thing. Ublock has made a good name for itself though too, no doubt.

Right, my thought exactly. How ironic though, right? It’s contradictory IMO, and maybe legally they have to have something existing and that’s why is buried several links down? Idk.

This is a “trust me bro” vibe from Google. Guess sites will just have to deal with a drop in traffic. Cuz they’re not getting any more data from me if I can help it

My recommendation to many newcomers:
Setup Yunohost, which gives you a custom Debian-based OS that’s easy to deploy tested builds, like Rustdesk. You can configure your Domain info, DNS, etc pretty easily, and if you decide, a dynamic domain or Porkbun (cuz is cheap plus free private WHOIS and SSL certs).
Yes, a small learning curve, but easier than building from Docker when you know nothing about Docker nor have the time to learn. I can fumble through a UI, I can’t fumble with commands or code that I don’t instinctively know. Others who day “just take the time to learn Docker”… But I’ve got 2 jobs, kids and their activities, pets, and other hobbies, so not much time for other stuff.

I miss the days of windows 8 and Cortana. Sure, she wasn’t perfect, but Jesus was it better than Copilot!!!
My Windows phone back in the day would link to my Pioneer aftermarket radio in my car and Cortana did text to speech for my incoming texts, and could do speech to text for replies. All through voice commands and hands free. My friends were blown away in 2012-2013.
You know how bad it was to buy just a SIM card lately? Really hard! Walmart doesn’t sell them, Best Buy doesn’t have just SIM card for sale anymore unless it’s “Simple mobile” “Ultra wireless” or some shoddy NVMO. or Mint, but Mint doesn’t do mobile hotspot plans 😮💨.
My best guess, I’m going to buy a Tracfone SIM probably, bc it supports T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon, and their cheapest plan is $10/mo for 1GB data which is mostly for emergencies anyway since I use WiFi at home and work.

What?? You don’t replaced your brakes at 5-6 years? If you drive under the US national average of 12k/year it should be around every 50-60k miles, so 5-6 years. Normally you hear the brake wear indicator squealing sound. Do you wait for the grinding noise to start and a funny smell? Yes, most people ARE in fact replacing at about 5 years. More often the cheaper you go as they wear out faster.

I think people reject that it’s as bad as they’re told because that don’t like to believe it’s that bad, or that there’s no way companies would do that to them. People don’t accept being told “you’re making a big mistake” and to feel dumb about it.
That’s my take. I had somebody at work ask what I do regarding privacy and I realized I lit up with excitement to share and had to immediately dial it back to not freak them out. I started out small and simple and emailed them since basics after chatting. Said, if they wanted additional info let me know " so that it’s up to them to continue the journey (down the rabbit hole lol).
But just glad to see others gaining the knowledge. My journey wasn’t immediate, it’s gradual, so I have to be mindful of their process too.

Surprised Copilot ISN’T coming to Xbox like initially planned. Thank god someone made that call to drop out, Copilot would eat up any remaining resources and butcher gameplay.
“AI” is stupid. All of it.
Hah, the data centers that’re controlled by AI fire suppression systems will fail because of… The fire. Like a catch 22. So ironic!
Just like Musk with the charade of “it’s coming” and as long as you keep excitement and act like it’s a game changer, the idiot investors will keep throwing money at it, propping it up. They’ve gotta believe by now it’s both unsustainable and a shitty product, but are just milking it dry for the sake of profits.

Someone should do a write up for pihole vs adguard vs technitium vs eBlockerOS
https://eblocker.org/en/ (German product?) (BTW you’re all welcome that I showed you a new thing)
Edit May 7: eBlockerOS seems geared towards better packet* inspection, hidden trackers protection, and fingerprinting. You can install a HTTPS cert* on your current machine so it does MITM packet inspection where it can scan*, inspect, and reencrypt from the looks of it.
Im probably going to run this at work on my test environment to see how well it does overall. Maybe less granular control, but I like is more* than just an adblocker like pihole.
Very good post, this guy gets it!
Holy… Are you me? Haha
Solo IT, very outdated, uh, everything. Spent the last few years updating, upgrading, modernizing, etc. We’ve come a long way! I can conformably take a vacation without sweating out having my stuff at arm’s length.
Message me if you want to share more, bc my list is far too long.

Maybe as a network scanner, because I know for “high accuracy” Android, for example, scans GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth in combination to help determine better accuracy of location. If it picks up a store WiFi it’s going to know you’re within 100ft. Or some car has a built-in hotspot that either found. Not 100%sure without looking into it further, just speculation.
You honestly could get a Lenovo tiny PC with 2 bay so-dimm RAM. I’ve got a i5-10500T and 32GB DDR 4 RAM with 2TB NVMe and 2x 2TB SSDs for various stuff. You can loaf A LOT on those since it’s not Windows. Maybe lol into Yunohost for apps, or ZimaOS.
