I had some concerns going in, but enjoyed them a lot more than I expected. Good to see some familiar faces, especially Vance as he was one of the better Disco s3 additions.

Yeah, I know. Its just frustrating. After Ent we went a long time without any Trek TV shows and then we got Discovery. Although it wasn’t perfect it scratched an itch for a lot of people. Then we got a lot of shows. We were told that there was going to be Star Trek all year long, and that there would always be a show airing all year long. Now it seems that every current show is coming to an end or already ended and we’re left with a lot of unknowns. A young adult college Trek and maybe a non Starfleet workplace comedy (as well as the last 2 seasons of SNW I guess too).
I’m honestly going in hopeful. I wasn’t sure about Lower Decks when it came out and now its one of my favourite shows. I really hope it does turn out good.

So… on the first point, hasn’t every series had at least one character who has to find themselves throughout the series? Weasley in TNG. Nog and Jake in DS9, Harry was on his first posting after the acadamy I believe in Voyager, Tilly was a cadet in Discovery and later Adira joining the crew and trying to fit in, Uhrua’s whole story in SNW is that she doesn’t know where she fits in, Prodigy is about a band of misfit kids trying to find a place they belong, even Worf’s whole arc is about him trying to find who he is and where he belongs as well. This is something that Star Trek has always explored.

I have some concerns. This kinda looks like a bad Degrassi rip off in space. I hope I’m wrong and it’s actually a great show. Just remember, we lost Discovery, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and will lose Strange New Worlds soon, for whatever this is going to be.

This is a much wider issue. So many people leave the default password on devices. I once installed an automatic gate with a pushbutton keypad at an airport and they wanted me to leave the default password of 0000 because it was easy to remember. I argued with them for 10 min, but they had the programming instructions and the airport manager straight up told me he’d just do it himself after I left, so I imagine that’s what happened because he seemed pretty thick and didn’t think that was an issue at all.

I played the demo this morning and really enjoyed it. It seemed a little rough around the edges, I had some problems navigating the ship and finding rooms, but it seemed pretty good. Its on my wishlist now.

I honestly assumed that she’d be one of the main instructors. Especially with Micheal saying something about Tilly being the Acadamy’s longest serving instructor (or something like that) in the Disco epilogue.
I had been thinking about it for a while. I had played with linux before on an old laptop, but not seriously, though I had been getting more frustrated with windows every time it updated it seemed. I then got the urged to play an old game of mine that i had picked up on a steam sale recently that i hadn’t played in years. It took hours of tinkering and web sleuthing to get it to run, then i played 20 min had to run to town, so I shut down my PC and bam. Windows update. Game no longer worked again. The next weekend I installed Linux mint, then Fedora, then the weekend Bazzite the weekend after that. The game I wanted to play on windows worked right out of the box on Proton. I’ve had less problems overall with Linux than Windows too. Most of the problems I did have early on were also self inflicted. Pro-tip don’t try to remove then re-install the lastest python manually in mint. It breaks everything apparently, luckily (unlike Windows) its very easy to re-install. It’s been about 7 months now.

I found four and a half vulcans the weakest episode in my opinion, but a friend of mine loved the episode. My biggest problem with the episode, other than why was it really necessary, was actually pointed out by Kirk in the episode. They didn’t actually even act like Vulcans they were just dicks, Pike especially was uncharacteristically rude and would have never treated anyone the way he treated Spock in the episode.
Most of the season scored between 5-7/10 for me. Terrarium was an 8.5, Vulcans was a 4, This is Starfleet was a 3, but if it was filmed differently could have been so much better. I really this that This is Starfleet had one of the better stories and checks a lot of “Classic Trek” boxes for me.

I mean… There was at least 2 years between season 2 & 3.

Yeah. I do think they did a great job btw. This season was such a ride and I can’t wait for season 4. I just meant that with so few episodes you really feel when one doesn’t hit right.

This is the problem with modern TV shows. We only have 10 episode seasons now vs the 20+ long ones from the TNG era. If these were all episodes in a season that lasted 20 episodes I doubt we would be seeing as many complaints, but as it is 10 episodes does not leave much room for any change of pace mid season. This season, while in my opinion was quite well written, was a little all over the place and didn’t really seem to have a lot of direction. It really bounced around a lot, which wouldn’t be a problem as much if there was 20 episodes to work with, but when you only have 10 its hard to justify some of the “fun” or experimental episodes.
As an aside. My least favourite episode “This is Starfleet” was also my favourite story in the season and if it was shot as a normal episode I think would have probably be my favourite of the series so far. It really captured the “Classic Trek” vibe for me.

A lot of people are also questioning why they even have a home PC now. Their Win 10 machine is “out of date” and they need to replace it or else, but their cell phone now does much of what their PC did. Instead of installing Linux and learning a whole new OS, they just cut out their PC and just use their phone.

Here’s the link to the docker I used. There are a few others on github, but this one seemed like it was the most actively updated.
https://github.com/sirjmann92/nicotineplus-proper
I liked slskd perfectly fine once I got it going, but I couldn’t get my partner to use it as she was used to nicotine and didn’t like the new interface. Once the Docker was set up in Portainer there was very little additional configuration and the rest was inside the nicotine webui app.

Instead of slskd I recommend using nicotine+. I found slskd worked fine, but was a pain to set up. I found a Nicotine docker that works just like the app inside a web UI. Much less of a learning curb for someone who’s not familiar with servers.

I feel like this could have been a great episode, if it wasn’t a documentary and was just written as a normal episode. Most of the quirks of the documentary really distracted me and I felt like they got in the way a bit.

I really like this slightly more chill La’an. John de Lancie was not expected. So If Trelane is now implied to be Q jr, is this episode supposed to take place before we see him in Voyagers Q2? He does come off as more of an immature teen in voyager, whereas in this and in TOS he’s quite more childish, especially when he’s challenged in both Trelane episodes.

I do look forward to seeing Erika do more than just “Fly the ship,” but I really wish it was literally anything other than the exact same thin La’an has been dealing with. She’s talked about being on the Klingon front a lot, why not tie it into that. I do like seeing a slightly more chill La’an and really think her and Spock pair together well as friends, but I do hope they don’t throw in more romance at spock with her.

Maybe we could get Captain Una? New ship and she could take the crew that we don’t see in TOS with her. Possibly have Kirk and crew crossovers.
I agree. Gaming has gotten to the point that its honestly better just to wait the 6 months, let the studio debug and actually have a finished product and then buy it when its 20% off.
