its basically a bit of futureproofing. 1 gig is fine for my home but I want the option to go a step further if I want to later.
I need VLANs and I’m planning some PoE+ stuff too, meaning higher costs though now that I think about it those are probably more common in 10Gig switches anyway. But that still means they are consuming more power, making more heat, making more noise from fans…
well it’s just for a home network and theres nothing I have that will ever need 10G. I energy consumption is higher and equipment costs are higher on 10G as well. I’ll likely be on gigabit for quite a bit but I’m planning the 2.5G as a compromise for future upgrades.
enterprise wont likely support 2.5gig which is what I’m targeting for this build. 10 gig is too expensive and power hungry for my tastes but 2.5 or 5 should be fine.
Oh i know they arent going to rip out existing support over this drama, but I really want to cut intel out of things wherever I can anyway. They have been on my shit list for years over corporate assholery. But now if they fail or break up or spin off divisions, the new owners of the networking division could theoretically throw the stability of that line into question so since I’m starting from a clean slate, I’d like to just avoid all that if possible.
The public launch of tor was only 1 year before i2p.
Are you suggesting the drives are accessed more slowly before this update?
Sound like it went the same way everything else went. The less money is involved the more trustworthy it is.
AI was never intelligent. It’s a marketing term, that’s all. It has absolutely no meaning.
I don’t trust tor. It’s western tech developed by the US and they’ve been caught lying multiple times about security features being removed from tor browser.
I’m glad it’s there and we should always have multiple options but at this point i2p has more credibility and fewer questionable ties than tor does.
Product placement has always been a thing. I once saw some show on tv where there was a hospital with shiny Apple computers in every scene and I laughed my ass off at how tonedeaf that was.
OMG the honey fiasco was such an incredible explosion to watch. I never trusted it. I knew it was shady. But I never actually studied it. Just dismissed it as ridiculous shit being shipped everywhere and avoided it. Then the truth came out, LTT and many other got caught with their pants down and looked really bad, and I felt my distrust validated.
So satisfying.
It’s kind of a guilty pleasure for me. I like it in the background sometimes. It’s like watching code blue cam. Cops are occasionally useful bullies but I don’t watch it for the cops. I watch it for the white trash judge judy bullshit. It’s a methed out freak show sometimes. It’s spectacle.
LTT and gamers nexus face similar but not exactly the same pressures. Gamers nexus is able to be more aggressive than Linus is but Linus structured his business in such a way that made it vulnerable to such a things.
The clearest example of this was when the Intel overvolting bug was being hidden by Intel PR spin and GN noticed a pattern, said fuck all that noise, and raised hell over it. GN was right. Intel was wrong. And GN was rewarded for it. Linus has to keep sponsors happy whereas GN regularly throws punches with industry titans like NVIDIA.
The risk is higher but so is the reward. People trust GN specifically because of that reputation. Linus is fun, his channel is interesting, but he’s squarely in the influencer/entertainment category.
I can also expel incredible energy very quickly but it just makes me feel ashamed.
I really respect Gamers Nexus for actually doing the shit Linus Tech Tips just haws and haws over.
Until they decide those tools are illegal as well. They solve a different problem. The government will ban things it cannot control so you have to fight governments directly, not just work around them.
Anything KDE. My mom and stepfather are using Kubuntu and it’s working out great.
Throw it on a windows VM. Snapshot the VM. If the VM ever pisses you off, just rollback.
