I personally found this really easy to initially install, much easier than photo prism… however it’s died twice on me (postgres issues) first was due to an update and then incorrect permissions… I’m not sure what broke it the second time… So whilst easy to install, does still require maintenance and time to fix issues.

Chief, if you needed to make an informed decision about every decision in life, there’d be no time for life. That’s why other people specialize in jobs so that within reason, confidence can be placed to their decision. I’m not saying you blindly agree and follow everything, but people can’t be responsible for every decision. For example, who made the seatbelt in your car? What research did you personally do to verify the safety of your seatbelt. What maintenance have you done to it to ensure that it works as intended? Pretty important life saving bit of equipment.

Edit: my presumption is that you(or the vast majority of the population) haven’t done any research into your seatbelt because you trust in the car company and the safety rating requirements of your nation to ensure adequate protection.

People can’t take increase responsibility for every single aspect of life. It seems straightforward to you because you’re likely tech literate. Do you know every process around how the mechanic services your vehicle, how medicines are made that you consume, how food is curated that you consume, how energy is generated that you consume? People can’t have intimate knowledge of every aspect of life, therefore if a company says “this is E2EE” you should be able to believe that at face value and rely on consumer protection agencies to follow up if it’s inaccurate.

AI will definitely stay in this world, but to what degree is the question… enough to warrant over half the GDP of Australia being spent in a year by one company? Probably not.

Open AI has announced over $1trillion dollars in infrastructure spending. I think you’ll find near on everyone agrees it’s a bubble, just not agreeable how big or the timeline of the burst.

Ctrl C doesn’t work in the terminal because that’s how you terminate programs. You need to use Ctrl shift c, control shift v etc.

I’m sure people have been making crawlers for 30 years… But I haven’t been, so I’ve been able to access “knowledge” and shape it for my use case. I think equating ~5 queries to torching an acre of forest is a bit hyperbolic which doesn’t help anyone.

I might not have been clear, no I don’t think I could have done it. Or if I could it would have taken months and months of learning . This was generated in about 5 queries and a total of 25 minutes testing.

In this scenario it needs to read a 5 day forecast capture key elements and only send the email/ alert the first time and not the following 4 days(if the alert remains the same) so in my previous attempts at RSS reader apps already in existence, they didn’t meet the need.

Well, I mean it’s not all marketing and hype. I was able to get it to write a piece of code to scrape a RSS feed and email me if it met certain perameters. I couldn’t have done that without a real grind / if at all. This is effectively the only time I’ve used it, and I think it’s atrocious the amount of petty shit people use it for… but there can be a functional benefit to generative AI. Makes me shed a tear thinking of the energy demand though.
