No, I’m pointing out your hypocrisy in recognizing that Iraqi nukes and the war on terror were largely overplayed to justify the invasion of the middle east for oil but not recognizing when Russia does the same shit in Ukraine. But it seems like you’re the type to decide who to support based on a vague tribalist conception of “east vs west” rather than actually having any moral principles to rely on, so I apologize if my criticism of certain eastern and western actions simultaneously is too much for you to handle.

Right, and the oil is just a coincidence, that just so happened to be there. And the US invaded Iraq because of terrorists and nukes that weren’t there, the oil was just a coincidence.
You’re really gonna say the attempts to distance themselves from the culture of their previous colonizers and current invaders is genocide?
Right, because drawing an allegory to the actions of the United States in the middle east as an example of doing something bad is the best way to praise the states
“No guys, it’s ok when Russia unapologetically invades a foreign country for oil, because you see that country is part of the west and west = bad”
The comments that already exist are pretty good but I’d like to bring up that I dont think it’s all that unique to Europe. Look at imperial Japan, for instance. I haven’t witnessed this myself, but I hear Korea has some cultural resentment towards Japan (particularly from older folk) thats not unlike how some affected cultures feel about their former European colonizers.

And, in fact, they don’t, this kind of content is very clearly and explicitly against roblox’s content policy but they fail to enforce it.

A massive one. There’s hundreds of games that exist almost entirely for the purpose of grooming ppl (a common one is so called “bathroom simulators” iirc) and roblox frequently doesnt do anything about them until there’s public outcry about ine particular game, no matter how many reports come in or how obvious it is.

However, those aren’t the kind of crimes this kind of mass surveillance is targeting either. They are trying to get rid of petty crime, gang violence, theft… stuff like that. And those kinds of crimes would almost dissapear entirely if you eliminated poverty.
OboTheHobo@ttrpg.networkto Technology@lemmy.world•AI Startup Flock Thinks It Can Eliminate All Crime In AmericaEnglish291·28 days agoThe only way you could actually come close to eliminating all crime would be if you eliminated poverty. But that would make the rich less rich, so not gonna happen.

It’s Scarier Than You Think - More Perfect UnionEnglish6·1 month agoThere was debate around whether they should use lidar. I thought I remembered that the initial plan was lidar but that musk dropped it before any actually got into the hands of consumers. I could be wrong though

Relying in computer vision alone when you could easily give it more reliable data to work with is just stupid.
Obviously this is subjective, but I use android auto all the time and something similar for a linux phone would be really nice for me. Don’t dismiss them just cause you wouldn’t use them

they advertise themselves as degoogled, but instead let you connect to Google/Microsoft/etc services
What the fuck are you talking about? Degoogled doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be allowed to connect to Google services. It just mean that it doesn’t require Google services to function and that the default configuration shouldn’t include any Google services. If the end user actively wants to use google/microsoft/etc services then they should be able to. It seems as though you are advocating for an open source operating system to lock itself down from allowing the end user to use certain features, which is against the FOSS ethos. Remember, “free” as in “freedom.”

But that might be under the umbrella of optional usage statistics/reporting that you can opt out of. Since this new tracking would be “necessary” for their “security” feature to work, there’s no chance that it could be avoided.
OboTheHobo@ttrpg.networkto Technology@lemmy.world•Google: 'Your $1000 phone needs our permission to install apps now'". Android users are screwed - Louis RossmannEnglish9·1 month agoCould be, but that could also just be done locally. Like your phone checking the apps you have installed and seeing if the same ones are on the play store. Having an install limit for an app - assuming that means that the app can only be installed some total number of times globally (a local install limit wouldn’t make any sense I think) - necessarily implies that when you install an app through an APK, it has to tell Google that you installed that app so it can track how many people have installed it and not approve installation of the app if it’s over whatever the limit is.
OboTheHobo@ttrpg.networkto Technology@lemmy.world•Google: 'Your $1000 phone needs our permission to install apps now'". Android users are screwed - Louis RossmannEnglish1021·1 month agoSomething kind of concerning I just found - there’s an option for “limited distribution” which is “Intended for ‘students, hobbyists, and other personal use.’” One of the differences is the following:
Has “capped number of apps and installs”(specific limits not disclosed)
Doesn’t this imply there’s going to be global tracking of what apps people are installing even through sideloading or APKs? I can’t think of any other way to enforce this. They would have to know how many times people installed an app even when its not through any kind of app store or even from the internet at all.

First off, the donbas is not majority russian. While it has the largest group of Russians in the country it is still majority Ukrainian.
Second, the ICJ and international association of genocide scholars investigated Russia’s claim of massacre and genocide and found them to be entirely baseless and fabricated to justify invasion.
Third, if this was about liberating the donbas, then Russia wouldn’t have gone all the way to Kyiv at the beginning of the invasion. Even still Russia occupies far more than the donbas.
I swear the way some of yall rush to defend Russia. You guys realize it’s not socialist anymore, right? That the country is ruled and controlled by capitalists? That capital interests like the oil in ukraine are what drive them?
