Both meat and veggie patties are sold as ‘burgers’ in the EU. Not always of course - the naming may vary, but this one is fairly common in my area.

Something you have to realize is that the meat lobby has been heavily lobbying for this for years. This has nothing to do with consumers. Just like with vegan cheese, this will only make the product names more confusing. There used to be products called ‘vegan cheese’. Perfectly clear what it is - just plant-based cheese alternative. Now you can’t legally name a product ‘vegan cheese’, so instead they’re called ‘vegan slices’ (if they come in slices) or other nonsense like ‘plant-based product’, which tells you absolutely nothing until you read the description.

There is an important distinction between being religious and supporting organized churches. ‘Religious people’ aren’t any more of a threat to you than gay people are. Churches, particularly the Catholic Church in Christianity, that don’t even follow their religion’s teachings, are the problem.

It was referring to not being able to call emergency services, which may realistically lead to your death. It’s a fairly unlikely scenario, but not a completely crazy one. It’s just a highlight in a sea of issues. Or at least that’s how it looks to me, as I’ve never used a Fairphone. Some people say they work flawlessly.

Based on most smartphones being very insecure. Of course, iPhones aren’t extremely secure, but the competition is practically nonexistent. Pretty much the only secure Android phones are Pixels. Samsung is considered one of the more secure manufacturers too, but according to GrapheneOS devs it’s still way behind Google.

Note that even police and government agencies sometimes have trouble getting into iPhones. They never have such troubles getting into Android smartphones, except Pixels.

This is by no means meant to advertise iPhones. It’s just a simple observation that security in smartphones is heavily lacking.

In terms of security alone, iPhones easily beat most Android phones. Which may be a fair argument in favor of iPhones. However, to ignore Apple’s policies and long history of delisting similar apps is delusional.

True, batteries are quite expensive and very much not environment-friendly when built on such a scale. Though it should be noted good solar panels last longer than 15 years. Even cheap panels can last 20 years.

This is an important point to consider. However, to me it seems somewhat separate from your previous comment.

Of course, no sane government should push for a country to rely solely on wind and solar. Ideally you have a mix of various energy sources, even potentially including some fossil fuels. Hitting that 20-30% sweetspot, as mentioned in the paper, looks to be fairly cheap and beneficial for everyone.

It’s nice, but I just really like the Windows’ design of this feature. Not really anything functionality-related. Honestly, I wish I could just have the file manager from Windows Vista or 7. I don’t even need tabs.

Batteries are nice, but they’re insanely expensive at this scale and ruin the entire point of helping the environment. Carbon emissions from huge batteries are unbelievable.

Solar panels crom China made it a lot cheaper than it used to be. There are also other major advatnages, such as increased independence. You just buy a bunch of solar panels and now you can indenepdently generate energy for the next 30 years.

I actually like the Windows file explorer. Used to be my favorite, before Dolphin. Nowadays I’d say Dolphin is slightly better overall, but could still use a change inspired by Windows or two. For instance, I really like the drive view on the Windows file explorer’s home page.

Good point. Linux phones, even in their current state, might be a good middle ground for people with low needs.

Although there’s two things I’d mostly be worried about.

1. Battery life. Smartphones, including Linux ones, aren’t exactly known for amazing battery life. A dumb phone would likely last several times longer on a single charge.
2. Physical durability. Even after all those years of structural improvements, smartphones remain fairly fragile. Usually I use high durability cases with my smartphones (ideally Otterbox Defender), though I don’t think anything similar is even available for any Linux phones. And of course, we all know dumb phones are generally durable enough.

It’s not bad for digging through error logs or otherwise solving simple to moderately complicated issues when it’s 2 pm on a Friday and you stopped thinking about work 4 hours ago.

Similarly, you using any Android phone with any Android ROM benefits Google indirectly, because it advertises their OS. And because it may support the development of AOSP, which of course is beneficial for Google.

Or you accessing any website that uses any google services for anything benefits Google indirectly, because it’s traffic for them, even if no valuable data is gathered.

Virtually anything you do is likely to benefit mega corporations like Google. It’s almost impossible to live a reasonably good life without benefitting them. It’s about finding a balance and cutting their benefits to the point where they’re unsustainable long-term.

Are you sure it won’t apply? As far as I understand, it’ll apply to all devices with Google services installed. Which includes most ROMs, as well as non-Google ROMs after you manually install gapps. Is my understanding off?

Some things are - on purpose - made easy to misuse and - by design - accessible to people, who are likely to misuse them. All this money, this supposedly cutting edge technology, and reporting to the police, but they aren’t able to tell when a child is at risk and report it as well?

Smells like bullshit to me. More like they don’t care. I’m not so sure children should even be allowed to use chatbots in the first place. Or only allowed to use versions specifically trained for interactions with children. But of course - banning children from accessing youtube and wikipedia is a much more pressing concern.

Hey everyone! As many have noticed, the PinePhone Pro is currently out ot stock on the Pine Store. Unfortunately we have to deliver you the following news: the PinePhone Pro is officially discontinued. We were told it didn’t sell well enough to keep production going. But the good news for current owners are that spare parts will still be made for up to two years, depending on demand. Meanwhile, the trusty PinePhone (A64) is still alive and kicking, and Pine Store plans to keep it rolling for about two more years.

Well, that sucks. So I guess the better move here would be to wait for something new? I don’t think the regular PinePhone is at all viable as a daily driver.
