Who’s been? Anything anyone wants to share abouy it?
I thought it was great, sure a bit young adult at times, but all of LotR can be at times. Animation I enjoyed, voice acting pretty great, good storyline - though a few too many plot holes at Helm’s deep for me. Wish I had seen more of the cousin and a little less siege I think. But what a siege!
Can you shed more, non-spoilery, details about the film to entice me? I’ve read the LOTR and the Hobbit, and I love the Jackson movies. I know this is a story from the wider legendarium, involving Rohan obviously, and that it’s done in anime style.
Beyond that, I’m in the dark.
You mention it feels a little YA focused at times. If you were to guess the intended audience age, what would you say?
Characters are pretty black and white, and personal relationships are limited to siblings and a father. They even killed the mother dysney style
But! This is a story of revenge, leadership, brilliant battles, epic single combat, with a fantastic animation style that totally suits LotR. Just over two hours in the universe means I want more. And there’s no hobbits, wizards, or treants, and the film doesn’t need them: Helm, Hera and Wolf leave you in no doubt where it is set. And there’s plenty of touches from the wider world too.
This is a fan’s film and a bit of lore will serve you well, but isn’t required. Worth seeing on the big screen with sweeping shots to grin at, audioscapes to lift the hairs on your arms, and a story that is fleet of foot and will suck you in. And Hera’s finale is fantastic in that outfit
If you like the LOTR movies, go watch this movie! I already had a big smile on my face the moment the New Line logo started appearing (not because of the logo :P ). I want sure if I’d like the anime style, but while I still prefer live action it was great, especially the beautiful backgrounds resp. landscapes. The story is quite straightforward and brings you a backstory to places or people featuring in lotr Rohan, but there’s no direct connection (which I think is good). I wouldn’t have considered it YA. Just less “visually violent” due to animation, but theme and story seem pretty much standard. I’d say the main target age is anyone that has already seen lotr :P
