microfuckers and its not even because hes a sexoffender, otherwise it would have happened sooner (afaik he was criminal early) but its purely political.
Its time we in Europe stop pretending that the US is capable of being anything other than an enemy. Its not just trump. If they do it once, theyll do it again. Whether its 1, 2, or several administrations down the line. We need to start distancing ourselves from them ASAP
Right on. Trump is just the frontman for now, but the ball will keep on going with the following administrations.
The Democrats will just do what they have always done: “there’s nothing we can do, they have the House and the Senate…”
We can’t rely on internal opposition whatsoever.
Sic semper tyrannis
Hear, hear!
This seems rather extreme. Losing trust is one thing, but to call them “an enemy”?
Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action.
— Ian Fleming, Goldfinger
Here’s a quote with equal relevance:
“When did Saruman the Wise abandon reason for madness?”
… And by “equal relevance” I mean not at all.
Seriously though, a corporation cancelled the account of someone who should never have been using it for official business in the first place. More reason to be less reliant on US corporate services and develop open European alternatives. But, terms like “enemy” over this? I thought we were better than that. That’s MAGA level escalation and hatred.
Let’s rise above this.
How is a country threatening to annex Canada and Greenland not an enemy?
The OP was about an email account being deleted. It said nothing about Greenland.
I’m just trying to quell the hate speech. Hating a whole country because it’s idiot leader says and does stupid things will only lead to bad things.
Using words like “enemy” and other hateful things about various countries and groups was how Trump energised and mislead people to vote for him. By meeting it with more hate we just make it worse. Surely we are better than this? The world has enough hate already without adding to it.
By all means, deride the actions of a madman and his puppet corporations, but to hate an entire country will just make this worse.
We’re not hating the whole country. Just the government and corporations in charge of it.
Ironically, Palantir Technologies is an US company. 😁
The cancelling of the email account is not the reason. Its a very small part of the reason. The reason is that the US has for decades been fascist (as I have been saying in other threads, it didn’t turn fascist overnight with the election of one man), imperialist, and generally a bully. As the UK was before it (and still is, apparent from their aid to the genociders), and as all empires have been and will be. It’s always been fascist just been very good at biding it’s time before “going public” with it, while working from the shadows to further its own agenda.
More hate leads to more wars, and we could do with less of those in the world. If you hate them, and brand them your enemy, you push them further away.
Be better than them. Be stronger than them. Educate them and show them how to improve. It’s harder than hating them but ultimately more productive. Hate is easy.
Europe and America are two peas in a pod, with the only difference between them being that European nations no longer have the military advantage to impose their will as they did in the past.
The US isn’t an “enemy”. They’re a powerful ally. That doesn’t mean they’re friends. We strategically band together against other world powers like China, Russia, Africa, and more and more India. In the same vein, Hungary isn’t the enemy of the countries within the EU, even though politically they might as well be. We won’t have the luxury of peace and prosperity if we don’t work together with our allies, even when our allies are being massive cunts.
They’re massive dicks, but until the invasion of Greenland happens (which would be pretty stupid even for Trump, installing a puppet government and forcing an independence referendum would be much cheaper) we’re still better together. Ukraine would be merely the first stepping stone when NATO collapses and without American military support, several Balkan countries might suddenly find themselves in a position to acquire more land if they side with the Russians.
That doesn’t mean we should let our critical infrastructure depend on our allies, though. Being trade partners is one thing, but being dependent on a mere ally is not good enough, not anymore.
They’re a powerful ally.
An ally in what? Bombing third world nations? In that case, yes. If you’re talking about an ally in terms of protecting the interests of european people, then lmao they aren’t.
So, are our governments finally going to see US software as a risk? Because this can shut down entire governments
Netanyahu has dismissed the ICC’s allegations as “absurd,” and Israel’s Knesset is considering legislation that would make providing evidence to the court a crime.
Right, allegations are absurd, so it makes perfect sense to criminalize providing evidence.
Can we make it a crime to make that a crime?
Holy shit that’s bad. That’s also confirming what we knew about using centralised services, they can and will target you as a person, if they are given the order.
That’s really bad.
I mean, that’s hardly a confirmation. The US has always used its power like this with its enemies, just ask Iran Cuba or Russia how they’re doing on international trade.
The new development is that all of Europe is now classified as an enemy, yet we’re fully incapable of not sucking on Amazon and MSFT’s teat.
That’s different though, a sovereign country using its power to sanction another sovereign country is one thing.
A country using its power to sanction a single person, not even a citizen, with a position like he has, for his work on a body whose authority is not recognised by the country, and all that through a corporation, at the order of the current administration is definitely another thing. It sounds very new and very dangerous to me.That’s routine as well. Plenty of Russian oligarchs are personally sanctioned in that way. Not that I’m saying ICC prosecutor and Russian oligarch are remotely comparable targets, but the method isn’t new. The shocking thing is who the US is now targeting.
At least it’s email, it’s relatively easy to adjust your DNS and move to a different provider. But it is pretty insane that the US govt is willing to weaponize the country’s leading businesses against its allies.
Well it’s much worse than that, it’s personalised sanctions on the personal account of the head of a supranational organisation (whose authority is not recognised by the US), from a private business, at the order of the president of the United States (or anyone in this shit administration, it’s doesn’t really matter at this point).
That’s a seriously fucked up precedent to make, on so many levels.
Not if you are a court or any form of government entity. You have to have meticulous documentation about everything that goes on in there or risk cases overturned on that basis. It might also be an attempt to discredit the court by planting or illegally searching the email account. This should launch an investigation into the united states, which turns them into a criminal state, trump as a person and microsoft needs to become illegal in every country under the iccs influence.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I feel the people working at icc currently have other fish to fry first. They are not like UN part of diplomatic relations but are tasked with investing (war)crimes already commited. I sincerely hope they have their priorities straight and focus on Sudan, Myanmar and Gaza first. Maybe Ukraine Xinjiang next, I don’t know what should be a priority but not US. I mean what US is doing is really bad, and maybe the matter of the deportations, the treatment of trans people and all the misogyny will eventually be something to handle in the ICC but for now I hope this ‘just’ sends a message to the countries connected to the ICC and they go fix shit without burdening the ICC itself with it.
I sincerely hope they have their priorities straight and focus on Sudan, Myanmar and Gaza first.
They are, that’s why the US has sanctioned them, hindering the investigations into what’s happening in Sudan, etc.
Well, it depends, right? If its an outlook email, he is fucked. I assume its a custom email, though.
Sending and receiving email is one thing, but accessing data that is on Microsoft servers is another. Hope they made an external back-up in time (would be surprised if they didn’t, but still).
Oh yeah, no doubt. Whichever way you paint it, this is really serious.
Microsoft, for example, cancelled Khan’s email address, forcing the prosecutor to move to Proton Mail, a Swiss email provider, ICC staffers said. His bank accounts in his home country of the U.K. have been blocked.
Microsoft did not respond to a request for comment.
The UK is the US’s little bitch.
Welcome to ProtonMail, a Trump supporting service. He can’t catch a break, can he?
I think that’s a stretch. If we wanna criticise Proton, it’s their lack of proper Linux support.
They gave trump money, so it’s literally the case. Not a stretch.
where did protonmail give trump money?
I think the other user may be mixing up events in their head. I haven’t seen anything about Proton’s donations but the Proton CEO has publicly made statements that suggested he might be pro-Trump.
Here is a really in depth analysis of his comments that concludes he may not actually be pro-MAGA.
Where? This was all over Lemmy for weeks. I’d recommend a search engine
no go https://www.ecosia.org/search?q=protonmail+trump+donation
can you tell me where you read protonmail donated to trump?
I’m either misremembering or misinformed about the donation, however, if you search lemmy, you’ll find a million posts like this:

Didn’t they do it because he lost access to that email?
Why the fuck is he using Microsoft to begin with!? I would imagine Microsoft’s TOS is incompatible with any organization that handles sensitive information. I wouldn’t trust them with my grocery list, much less international human rights data.
Yes, but the alternatives are Google and Amazon. The bigger the organizations the smaller the amount of options, since the back-end becomes increasingly difficult to manage.
How come his bank accounts in the UK was frozen? In what way can the US have influence on that?
The US will fine and sanction banks that do not comply with its sanctions. So any bank that lets Khan have an account will get slapped basically.
Surprised HSBC bank didn’t jump at the chance to provide their services. They have a long history of getting fined for breaking sanctions.
Oh that’s right, Khan doesn’t have enough money to make it worth their while.
Damn that’s fucked
Because we’re all living in corporate dictatorships masquerading as “democracy”.
The oligarchy everywhere are authoritarian fascists, no different to the kings and queens of history, and they own every major corporation and government.
