I think of this when Europeans on other threads shit on Americans by saying “come over here if you want that free speech back”. So many things come to mind. There are protests. We’re in transition right now, this is a brand new government. People are afraid that the alternative (!) is literal, outright Nazis and this is the lesser evil. We’ve been protesting shit for some months but right now I think everybody’s tired. No, these are not “good reasons”. I don’t even know, man.

And this increasing deterioration of public opinion is happening despite the fact that a responsibility for Israel is cemented into the german law and favorable opinions being actively promoted by the media and government.
It’s frustrating to have to hear the German state media being unconditionally pro-Israel. And sad to try to have a reasonable conversation about this with acquaintances and co-workers. But what really triggers my cognitive dissonance is all those pro-Israel leftist-themed stickers spread everywhere.
